Scroll through my Instagram and you’ll see I’m all about having the wavy, curled hairdo. Waking up to messy bedhair? I’ll just be werkin’ it as intentional waves.
I have absolutely no patience when it comes to styling my hair. I need something that works fast and looks good. For the longest time, I was using heated curlers. It’s easy; you turn it on and wait for the individual curlers to heat up. I use the time in between to apply my make up and when I’m done, the curlers are hot enough for me to roll my hair up with. I find my outfit and by the time I’m dressed, the curlers can come off. Great curls and an efficient use of my time.
Straightening my hair never seemed to be an option because it seemed like too much work and time.
But let’s get things straight (lol, see what I did there).
Receiving the Glam Palm hair straightener has got to be one of my life-changing experiences. If you’re worried that it’ll take you all morning to get your hair straightened, this straightener takes me less than 10 minutes. Honestly, it’s my go-to hairstyling weapon now.
The first step is taking care of your hair.
Applying any sort of heat to your hair risks having it frizzle out. Get a good bottle of smoothening hair cream or heat-styling protective cream. I’m currently using the L’oreal Mythic Oil. It keeps my hair from drying out and smells great. Using it before straightening protects your hair and using it after straightening gives your hair an added shine. Of course, that’s not much of a worry if you’re using the Glam Palm straightener. The heat bars are infused with a mineral ore that keeps your hair protected from breaking off or getting frizzy while giving a gorgeous extra shine.
Rub the oil between your palms and smooth it over your hair but make sure to leave more at the ends because that’s where hair is most brittle.
Next, get your Glam Palm out and switch it on.
Here’s the tricky part. Figuring out what temperature suits your hair best takes a little practice. The Glam Palm comes with a control function that lets you toggle the temperature from 100 to 200. It took me two tries before figuring out that I like my temperature set at 170.
Depending on how high you set the temperature, the straightener takes only a few seconds to heat up. Talk about efficient; I barely have enough time to put a coat of mascara on before it’s heated from 100 to my set temperature of 170.
When it’s all heated up, get to work!
To make it easier, clip the top half of your hair up and start straightening the hair at the bottom. Work your way up and let more partitions of hair down when you’re done with the previous. An order of the Glam Palm straightener comes with two handy clips that work well with holding my obnoxiously thick hair up. If it can hold my hair up, I’m pretty sure it’ll be able to hold just about anyone’s.
And when you’re done straightening, turn it off!
But if you’re a total klutz and regular subscriber to the ‘may-set-my-house-on-fire-because-I-never-seem-to-be-able-to-remember-to-turn-my-hair-appliances-off’ club, the Glam Palm is a total lifesaver. Its safety feature turns the straightener off when it’s at risk of over-heating or when it’s left turned on for more than half an hour.
I’m also here to debunk the entire ‘Straight hair is so boring’ myth.
You can do so many things with straight hair.
A simple ponytail never fails. Gather your hair in a bunch and let some parts of your fringe fall, framing your face. This makes your face look slimmer.
If you prefer a bun, wrap the ponytail around your hairtie and tuck the ends in.
I prefer my hair down and that’s what you’ll usually see me with. A center parting works great in framing your face but sweeping your hair to one side works just as well.
If not, sweep your hair into a low side ponytail to keep your hair out of your face. This works great in hot weather and looks good.
